Well let us start with the Vikas Dubey episode itself. I for one does not understand why the police force that went to arrest him never prepared a cordon in the first place before approaching his hideout. Secondly why would a raiding party approach that close to a building in vehicles thus effectively making them sitting ducks. There is a term called dismounted approach.
Anyways it is my understanding that the police officers that were shot dead were not wearing bullet resistant jackets, if they were it would have been more than enough to stop bullets from primitive country made guns. Yes, the Indian police force never relied on weapons to enforce law and were always unarmed, as we never supported the militarization of the police force. But it is high time that the police force is given some options of non lethal weapons that they can carry with them on a daily basis. No I am not talking about guns that fire rubber pellets. There are various other systems that are far less dangerous like tasers, pepper pellet handguns etc...
