Do you know how many Indians and people of Indian origin (PIO) are present throughout the world?, the sheer numbers just amazed me.

What I see from the above figures is not sources that generate foreign exchange, not exporters of goodwill and certainly not patriots.. or are they ? Apart from the obvious problem of brain drain what really catches my attention is that a majority of Indians and people of Indian origin has chosen to make 'The Five Eyes' (An intelligence alliance consisting of Australi, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States of America) as their home. Now this presents an enormous yet untapped potential for us.

Now bear with me, coming back to the 'brain-drain' that we as a nation frown upon, this unique situation presents our intelligence agencies with a vast pool of human intelligence sources or otherwise referred to as HUMINT (it always helps to be an optimist). Successfully recruiting an Indian or Indian origin person by appealing to their sentiment of nationalism (or you could blackmail them) is a clever way to infiltrate the "Five Eyes" and essentially could give us access to all of the intelligence collected by these heavyweights in espionage. To put it simply our intelligence agencies could sit back and collect all the vital intelligence without breaking a sweat all the while others do the job for us. This strategy is not unheard of, the Soviet Union ran a program called "Illegals" in which they inserted Russian agents with fake backstories and posing as US citizens into the United States for infiltrating the military and intelligence apparatus of the host country - if you want to get a feel of their life watch the Netflix show called "The Americans".

All I am saying is that we wouldn't have to go to the lengths that the Soviet Union did as we already have people in place. The case of Rabinder Singh (the RAW agent that fled to US after committing treason) will only add strength to my arguments,I hope. After all if they can why can't we spy.
